After Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, a former student and I were sitting around talking about how plastic surgery and other futile pursuits of lost youth make people into cartoon figures and caricatures of themselves.
Yes, Cher's name came up in the conversation.
Her idiocy in Cher's pursuit of youth is surpassed only by the stupidity that spews from her mouth.

I wonder if Rob Reiner saw the ugliness of his arrogance when he watched the playback of the video.
Would YOU like to have an after-dinner discussion with any of those in the video, particularly with Rob Reiner? His arrogance is disgusting. Worse, the audience loved it.
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Okay let’s talk about what the…message to a lot of the people was. The message coming out of the Tea Party people, and lot of them are good people, is every man for himself, basically. “No more taxes, no more government, no more everything. No more safety net. No more health care for everybody. Everybody just get out there, make your buck, save it, screw the government, move on.” Right?
RICHARD TRUMKA: Yeah.
MATTHEWS: You know these people [the Chilean miners], if they were every man for himself down in that mine they wouldn’t have gotten out.
TRUMKA: That’s exactly right.
MATTHEWS: They would have been killing each other after about two days....
Connecting the Chilean miners with the Tea Parties is beyond ludicrous, especially in light of details about Luis Urzua, the foreman who refused to give up.
Surely, surely, Chris Matthews's viewers can see how stupid Mr. Thrill-Up-The-Leg's words are!

I was going to put up an I'm-fed-up-with-blogging-and-I-quit announcement.
After all, I've got a lot to do besides blogging: work, housekeeping, cooking, and caregiving Mr. AOW, including transporting him to outpatient therapy twice a week. Furthermore, other bloggers are posting regularly on the topics which interest me and doing a better job than I can do right now.
Besides, preaching to the choir and cataloging all the negative events and trends grow soooooo weary.
Then, I saw the following video and changed my mind about going to live under a rock (hat tip to Mustang of Social Sense):
Posting here will pause for a time as I have students' research papers coming in on May 4 and out-of-town company arriving on May 17. A few weeks later, the 2009-2010 school term ends, resulting in a lot of work to complete before the final day arrives.
But I have decided not to abandon blogging at this point.
I will continue to "tweet" (I HATE that word!) at the top of the sidebar and to read the web as time allows. And I will continue to check comments here at my primary web site.

Bill Clinton's Ideological Mistake (With Not-To-Be-Missed Addendum)
Did anyone else catch this fundamental error, an error running completely contrary to our Founding principles?

Former President Bill Clinton warned of a slippery slope from angry anti-government rhetoric to violence like the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, saying "the words we use really do matter."
The two-term Democratic president insisted he wasn't trying to restrict free speech, but in remarks Friday he said incendiary language can be taken the wrong way by some Americans. He drew parallels to words demonizing the government before Oklahoma City.
...[T]he people are the nation, NOT the government....If the government takes steps in law that a substantial portion of the nation feels damages the core purpose of the nation..., then troubles ensue.
...[T]his is just another DESPERATE, DESPERATE attempt to marginalize the people....
Equating in any sense the Tea Parties with Timothy McVeigh is so far over the top as to beggar belief. In essence, Bill Clinton is telling the Tea Partiers, "Shut up! Don't dissent because dissension is dangerous and leads to terrorism. Submit to the will of the government."
America has never stood for the principle that dissent is dangerous in and of itself. If it were, we wouldn't have opposing candidates on our ballots.
With all that screeching, let's be sure that Hillary Clinton's words are clear:
I'm sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and disagree with this administration, somehow you're not patriotic. We need to stand up and say we're Americans, and we have the right to debate and disagree with any administration.

Our War for Independence almost two and one-half centuries ago wasn't a revolution. Rather, it wasthe necessary step for restoring rights which no government should be allowed to usurp.
Of course, England at the time portrayed the colonists' uprising in a different way, much as the media and the BHO administration are portraying the Tea Parties of the Twenty-first Century.
American and Proud has an index for finding a Tax Day 2010 Tea Party near you. Get out tomorrow, and exercise your Constitutional rights. While you still have them.

[M]any Americans are awake now, with more waking up all the time. So keep your powder dry, America. Our country has drifted Left toward the rocks for 60 years now, and time is short to steer away from shipwreck, but we can do it.
Dale Robertson, the racist nut who many in the media have paraded as emblematic of Tea Party attendees, claims to be a "leader" of the movement. In fact, he is a loner who has been rebuffed by every Tea Party group with which he has associated.
Of course that did not dissuade the liberal media from unquestionably presenting him as the "leader" he dubiously claimed to be. The Washington Post and liberal blog Talking Points Memo both portrayed him as such, despite the fact that numerous Tea Party groups have publicly denounced him (none, as far as I can tell, have backed him).
It turns out his "leadership" is not the only thing Robertson embellished....
As long as we have mainstream media outlets that won't publish the truth, including appropriate retractions, the Tea Party Movement will have an uphill slog. That said, an uphill slog cannot be accomplished.
